Being a peace-loving Limey, I have absolutely no experience of shooting, or even handling, any kind of real gun (although I did take a few shots at some pigeons with a friend’s air rifle once as a child, and am eternally grateful I missed every time). However, I’m pretty sure that what we have today is muscle women and rifles.

Who or where this is is a complete mystery to me. On the one hand, it seems to have all the casual authenticity of the images you see coming out of countries like Libya these days. On the other hand, she looks, to my eyes anyway, a lot like new UKBFF British Physique Champion Ria Ward. Surely not!

Arms of the Day: Lorena Feruzzi

The female muscle freedom fighter…

The first two images that I can remember of a muscle woman ‘tooled up’ came courtesy of WPW (I think) back in the early 1990s (again, I’m relying on memory). Italian female muscle legend Lorena Ferruzzi provided the beautiful frame to hang the weapons on. That chest in that vest, those legs in those boots. I was innamorato a prima vista (as they say in her hometown of Viterbo) and such is her enduring power over me that all these years later I’m getting all tingly just thinking about that first time.

Arms of the Day

I would never give less than 100% to the blog, and to you, dear reader, unless it were absolutely necessary to cut a corner or two, and unfortunately this is a week when it is. So slightly lazy posting this week, although hopefully not completely devoid of interest, in the shape of muscle women and their weapons of choice.

left:It’s a crying shame that Brigita Brezovac has recently announced her retirement from competitive bodybuilding, and it’s probably quite insensitive of me to be posting a photo of her (with probably the biggest gun and the biggest guns we’ll be seeing this week) while Brigy fans are still in mourning. Maybe she’ll be baaaaack as the super muscular female action hero we’ve been dreaming about all these years…

right: Andrea Giacomi and a weapon that has something to do with ‘Doomslayer’, I am reliably told. Afraid that’s not my area of expertise, although if knowledge of it was a prerequisite for getting involved in cosplay with the like of La Giacomi, I might be persuaded to read up about it.

Selfies of the Day: Bare Backs Special

Back in May, FMS brought you a selection of ‘Bare Backs’ that included a few selfies, and today we’re expanding on that theme with nothing but bare backs taken exclusively by the women themselves. At the time, we noted that taking a picture of your own back is not the simplest thing in the world, or as Mistress Treasure/Victoria Dominguez puts it, ‘This shit ain’t easy’.

So forgive the hottie on the left (I feel like I should know her name, but it escapes me) who, despite the decent camera, hasn’t quite managed to get it all in (although we’ll forgive her because firstly, she is an absolute stunner, and secondly, because what we can see of her back is sexy as). And forgive newly-crowned (and first ever) UKBFF Physique champ Ria Ward for not quite nailing it, because again, what we can see is a treat.

But Spanish femuscle beast Estefania Saura Moya has a cunning plan. Take lots of shots from lots of angles and its all covered. I like her thinking.

top: FMG Ariel Gail, an NPC Physique competitor from Denver, remembers to get her luscious dark hair out of the way of her increasingly impressive back. You can take Swell’s word for it that Ariel looks as good from front-on as she does from behind or you can follow Ariel’s Facebook and Twitter. bottom: the bare back of Leah Peters, fitness and bikini competitor. Leah is a serial self-snapper, and, like Ariel, is no plain Jane, and if you want to see much much more you can visit her website/blog or, if you’d rather have the pictures without the words (and you’d be missing out, she’s pretty funny), she’s on Instagram.

top: I don’t know who this is, but I like what she’s doing because if it’s hard to take a photo of your own back it’s even harder to take one of your own back while flexing. And she seems to be doing it without wearing much below the waist, so that’s another reason to applaud. ID anyone?

bottom: this is how it’s done by the pros. From Larissa Reis‘ “Bare Back Selfie Masterclass”: Have a big mirror. Move away from it. Keep yourself steady with your free arm while holding up the phone far enough away so you can see what you’re shooting. And for extra credit wear a nice thong so you give the boys some glute action to go with your sexy muscled back. Any questions?

BARE BACK SELFIE MEISTERWERK I: Mette Stensland

The sort of image you want to whip out when someone in your earshot starts bad-mouthing women with muscle. Mette is a Norweigian bodyfitness competitor and personal trainer who is very very adroit at the bare back selfie. Another great bare back selfie of her (among many many others) can be found here, and though it’s a couple of years old, you might also like to read an interview with her here.

BARE BACK SELFIE MEISTERWERK II: Shayla Turcotte

A perfect bare back selfie with double biceps from a rising female muscle star. Shayla is a former wrestler, now a physique competitor, who is a jaw-dropping 6ft (1.83m). Nickname: The Specimen. In her first attempt at a physique contest, she finished third at the Canadian Nationals earlier in the year. Her YouTube trailer for Athletic Women Magazine is a must see. You have not heard the last of her (in fact, she’ll be back on FMS tomorrow!).

Now, what could be better than this bare back selfie of Swedish hair extension specialist (no, really, check out the website) Adriana Kuhl?

In just the few days since it was posted on Insane Muscle Girls, the bathroom where these two muscle maidens derobed and made this (already iconic) image has become a place of pilgrimage for female muscle heads. The first to arrive were natives of Stockholm, but soon brethren were arriving from all over Scandinavia, Europe, and in the last twenty-four hours, the world. Join the queue to enter this holy place by tipping the doorman. Pilgrims get access one at a time, can spend up to five minutes paying tribute, and are asked to leave the bathroom as they found it. Selfies of the Day: Gym Bodz Special

In the case of Larissa Reis and Oksana Grishina (above), sometimes there’s no other option than the selfie because there isn’t another soul, male or female, in that gym who could hold that phone steady right now, but aside from that, why take pictures of yourself in the gym?

They might be used as an objective record of the muscles before and after a set or a workout, or as a way of charting physical development over time. Or perhaps she’s just checking how she looks in that skin-tight/skimpy new outfit she’s wearing for the first time. But there are mirrors in the locker room, so why not wait a bit? The female muscle head can only conclude that she does it in the gym simply because she wants to draw (even more) attention to herself. Lifting up that vest to show off those abs will do it, and so will a little impromptu flexing.

She’s sweaty, pumped, the endorphins are fizzing. This is what she loves doing, and this is when she feels at her best, at her sexiest, when she feels more alive than at any other time. Yes yes yes, of course I’m not suggesting she doesn’t take her training seriously, that she’s only there to preen and pose, but surely a little preening and posing goes with looking that good.

Check out this one. Great abs, super lean, and she just can’t resist. The guy behind (a man who clearly doesn’t appreciate how lucky he is) looks, well frankly, bored, which suggests to me she’s either spent a long time getting this pic or she’s constantly taking breaks in order to admire herself. Am I the only one who’s coming to these conclusions?

Surely Jannika Larsson (top left) could have waited till she’d finished her set?! Next to the impatient Jannika, Danielle Gardner (aka Mz Devious) looks suitably aloof while she admires her own work. Below left Katka keeps her fans up to date with her pectoral progress (and we’re pleased to see that Katka remains unenhanced). The lady below right gets around the problem of wishing to remain anonymous while at the same time making your abs famous.

It can’t be easy taking a picture of yourself when all the adrenaline that comes with being a super-pumped mature alpha female muscle beast starts to flow. Shawna Pierce aka Shawna Strong (left) does a slightly better job of holding the camera steady than Sue Scheppele (right), although in Sue’s defence, the blood seems to be flowing a tad stronger for her.

Finally, FMS fave Marthe Sundby. I reckon she looks like a big beautiful female muscle lollipop in her pink outfit. And there’s only one thing to do with lollipops… Back to reality and I honestly can’t imagine what such a vision might cause me to do if she came walking into my gym. I’m pretty sure it’d end with my membership being cancelled. And that’s the best-case scenario!

Selfies of the Day: Virginia by Virginia

I think we can all agree that 2013 Arnold Europe Amateur champion Virginia Sanchez Macias needs to get a better camera. A body like that, it seems to me, deserves a higher definition image. However, it has to be said that Virginia does get a lot of use out of that phone of hers. She must have taken hundreds of shots of her lovely self, and shared them with us. So, this selection today represents only a fraction of the selfies Virginia has taken in the last couple of years.

Her selfies document her ever-changing hair and her ever-growing body. On just a 5’3″ (1.60m) frame, she carries a beastly amount of muscle. Real Female Bodybuilding.com reckon that pound for pound and inch for inch Virginia is probably the most muscular female bodybuilder in the world. Whether that is true or not, she does, at least, deserve to feature in the conversation.

She was born and lives in Madrid, so her victory there must have felt even sweeter for being in her hometown. At 42, and having been bodybuilding on and off for the best part of 25 years, she now has an international title. Hats off to her.

Earlier in the year, FMS dubbed Virgina ‘La Tora’ or the female bull(!). Not very biologically-correct, we know, but we’re sticking with it. Olé!

She’s a former model, and a mother. I hope to improve my body everyday and I hope to be healthy to be able to train and compete for many years, she says. And I can only hope that she’ll continue to take more and more shots of herself.

Perhaps with a better camera though…
