Karen’s XTC

In the course of putting together The Agony & the Ecstasy, FMS came across an image that so perfectly illustrates our point that we felt compelled to give it its own post.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

The woman is Karen Smith. We know she is Canadian, and thanks to the all-knowing Muscle Memory, we were able to establish that it was taken during her routine at the Canadian Nationals in 1995. Karen was crowned the lightweight champion.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

We know that in the same year she competed at the NPC North American Championships and finished 5th as a middleweight. She also appeared in WPW around that time. What happened after 1995 to Karen Smith, nobody seems to know.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

If it’s a biography of Karen Smith you’re after, sorry to disappoint you. But, thanks to Karen and the photographer responsible, what we do have is a snapshot of her on stage that epitomises our pet theory (of the week!). It’s so perfect, in fact, that if we had to give the photo a title, it’d be something like “The Ecstasy of the Female Bodybuilder”.

Take a good long look for yourself.

imagebam.com

There’s no rush… Muscular beauty like this needs time to be appreciated. Her left shoulder (right as you look) curves out so beautifully, the muscle full and pumped. The pose ripples through her left pec muscle (right as you look), and what a joy her old school nothing-but-muscle chest is to behold! Look at the tendon at the top of her thigh, so pronounced as she flexes hard onto her right leg, flaring her glistening quad…

You probably don’t need me to tell you where to look!

What I’m looking at is a woman in absolutely the best condition she can be in, but whether I think she is actually perfect or not is besides the point. What is important is what Karen thought, and especially what Karen was feeling on that stage in 1995.

The image, it seems to me, shows that Karen has fully realised what Tanya Bunsell calls ‘the latent image in her mind’s eye’, the vision she has of her body at its most perfect.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

And how does it feel to realise that image?

She’s smiling, her nostrils are flaring. Her eyes are closed.

I think we are looking at Karen’s moment of ultimate ecstasy…

And whatever she did before or after that moment in 1995, at least we know that this (clearly) talented female bodybuilder had her moment. And thanks to the photographer, Karen’s moment has been caught forever. Forever in ecstasy.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

Unfortunately, there’s no footage that we know of of Karen at this show, but you can watch her routine from the North Americans. She’s not in quite the same peak shape (only strengthening our argument that the Canadians was her peak), but at least you can get a feeling for her considerable stage presence for sure. She’s on from 0.38 for about thirty glorious seconds in this round-up of the winners on YouTube.

And if by some bizarre chance Karen Smith is out there somewhere today and is an FMS reader (and don’t laugh, you’d be surprised by some of the women who do read us, I’m sure) then please, Karen, we would absolutely love to have you get in touch and tell us how we’ve got it all completely wrong about what you were feeling in this picture…

The Look of Love: Abs

imagebam.com
Natalia Kovalyova willing her six-pack into existence

There are plenty of women out there with naturally well-developed calves. Fewer women are naturally blessed with stronger and ever so slightly muscular arms. These and other women with some natural muscularity fool my female muscle radar on a regular basis. But as far as I know, there aren’t any women on the planet with naturally defined six-pack abs – and please, if I’m wrong do tell me where they are).

imagebam.com imagebam.com
imagebam.com imagebam.com

It’s not surprising there is so much navel-gazing (if you’ll forgive the pun) going on in the female muscle world. Every single one of these cut and sexy women have put in hours, weeks, months and years of effort in order to achieve their magnificent midriffs. Early morning alarms, intense and painful workouts, the discipline of the diet… The sense of achievement must be immense. But not only that, a woman wouldn’t even try to get a ripped midsection unless she thought it was, among other things, a sexy look.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

Remember the NPC competitor on Tumblr who we quoted the other day saying how she felt so fat off-season, how she always wanted to look like she did two days before a contest? (see The Look of Love: Mirror, Mirror). Well, in our offerings today we have women who are in or around contest shape, women who are pretty much 100% happy with how their bodies, their muscles, and, in particular, their abs are looking.

imagebam.com imagebam.com
imagebam.com imagebam.com

Here we are again with female bodybuilders at their happiest at or around competition time (perhaps the night before not so much, but generally). And by the way some of these ladies you see here are looking at themselves and their musclelicious bellies, ‘happy’ may not be the most accurate word to use. It’s “The Look of Love” again!

imagebam.com imagebam.com
imagebam.com imagebam.com

And Swell loves that look, yes I do. But with summer approaching here in the UK (not very fast, but approaching nonetheless) I’m fearing for my female muscle radar. Summer is the time of bare midriffs. Teens mostly, but the occasional woman in her twenties who thinks she has a toned tummy but doesn’t are both going to soon be liable to flash the flesh in the heat of the summer. And that means more false alarms for my poor radar. Even worse, there are the women who are actually fat but just don’t care letting it all hang out. No radar issue there, but I have an issue with that. What I don’t see – it may be going on elsewhere my friends, but it certainly ain’t going on here I can tell you – is fit and muscular ladies baring themselves in the abdominal area.

imagebam.com

So, six-pack ladies of the world, FMS says to you, this summer, bare your magnificent midsections! Show the world your musclelicious midriffs. Let’s ‘ave them abs out!

[You may be thinking that the only reason I’m making this appeal is because I want (NEED!) to see more female muscle in my life. If you are, shame on you. Well, I’m not saying that’s NOT a reason, but I do have more altruistic aims in mind here.]

imagebam.com imagebam.com

Get them out at home and it might turn on your boyfriend (or his brother, or their Dad), but that’s about as far as it goes. Get them out in the gym and you may inspire another woman. Isn’t that better? Well, check this out, get them out in the street and by the law of averages you’ll inspire a lot more women who have never been near a gym (or have and gave up on January 7th). They will go to the gym, seek you out for advice even. Make you feel even better about the amazing body you already feel very good about. And then there is the added bonus that the wannabes and the tubbies will be shamed into putting their inferior ‘physiques’ back under a layer at least. We all win.

imagebam.com

And while you are at it, you might, from time to time, look down at your own abs with that look, that look of love. After all, we wouldn’t want anybody doubting how very very good it feels to be the woman walking down the street, all eyes upon you, proud and aroused in your muscular armour, showing off the rippling results of all that physical exertion and dietary discipline, your superior shredded abs.

If I can’t convince you, maybe Bella Falconi can…

imagebam.com

“Oh look she’s got man’s abs.” Free yourself from labeling. It won’t make you better, not even prettier. If abs were for men, women wouldn’t be born with it or with the ability to work to achieve it. And I wear mine proudly. I sweated for it and this is the materialization of the battle ‘me against my mind’, which I obviously won and win everyday of my life. Weak are those who criticize. Strong are those who regardless of others’ opinion, keep working for their ideals with the right mind set: a champion’s attitude and champions don’t give up. Weakness is ugly. Abs aren’t.

Enjoy, and stay tuned for The Look of Love: Biceps coming soon!

The Agony & the Ecstasy

Lea Wiehl – check her out her Facebook, she’s the Danish Georgina McConnell (only smaller!) – took to the stage over the Easter weekend at The Loaded Cup.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

This was her competitive debut, her first experience of the physical and mental challenges involved in preparing for and performing at a bodybuilding show. And in the mood I’m in this week, I couldn’t help but wonder how Lea was feeling as she stood up there and posed for the judges and the crowd (not to mention all the fans following the show’s live stream). And as I looked at Lea, I couldn’t help remembering something I’d read by an anonymous female IFBB pro on her feelings about competing…

It’s agony to get so depleted, but it’s ecstasy to show it off…

imagebam.com imagebam.com

The challenges involved in competing are well-documented. But what of the pleasures? In the final chapter of Strong and Hard Women, Tanya Bunsell gives us a unique and invaluable insight into both as she recounts her experience of following “Michelle”, a female bodybuilder, preparing and competing in a regional British show.

In her opinion, unless you go through the bodybuilding diet yourself, you can never fully understand what it’s like… With more than two weeks to go before the show, “Michelle” finds herself in a difficult place – I’m tired, I’m exhausted and I’m not very responsive. I know that I can just sit in my vegetative state just listening, but it can come across that I just don’t care. I’m just not very enthusiastic – just plodding along. Sometimes I feel like I’m cold, shut off and isolated and completely on my own – and everything gets blamed on the diet and sometimes I feel so alone with it.

But as we enter the fortnight before the show, “Michelle” transforms, both physically and mentally, as the end of her journey (the contest) comes into sight. Dr. Bunsell observes that her drawn face is animated by her bright, almost translucent blue eyes, with dilated pupils. She describes an ‘almost heightened awareness’. This sublime, ‘euphoric’ feeling manifests itself in an overall feeling of confidence.

imagebam.com imagebam.com
imagebam.com imagebam.com

This is demonstrated in the gym, when, one week before the competition, she trains in a vest and tight shorts, rather than her usual baggy T-shirts and tracksuit bottoms. Within the gym, Michelle is greeted by hushed whispers, people pointing and shocked stares. Some men even take one look at her and leave the weights area altogether. Instead of her usual reaction of annoyance and frustration as a result of such unwelcome distractions from her training, she now challenges the onlookers in a direct but non-aggressive manner. Far from turning away and avoiding eye contact in a dignified manner, she poses audaciously in front of the mirror for all to see.

imagebam.com imagebam.com
imagebam.com imagebam.com

With a couple of days to go, her depleted body is crying out for carbs and her intake of water so great she needs to pee all the time. The afternoon before the show and she’s suffering from a deep thirst and only having the odd tiny sip of water. But at least she gets to have the carbs she’s been dying for. “Michelle” has been looking forward to this treat, but so dry is her mouth that her carrot cake tastes like ‘sawdust’.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

On the day of the show itself, “Michelle” gets what she calls her ‘time to shine’. It’s a regional amateur show, but there’s a crowd of over 1,000 spectators to perform for as well as the judges. Backstage, Dr. Bunsell witnesses “Michelle”‘s final transformation.

As she begins to pump up for the last time, new life is breathed back into her organs, causing the separation between her muscle groups to become so distinctly visible and her veins so prominent that her body looks like an anatomy chart come to life. Her pumped-up muscles glisten underneath the oil and perspiration. It is finally time for that sacred moment. Everything has been building up to this one moment in time.

imagebam.com imagebam.com
imagebam.com imagebam.com

It seems then that competing is both a kind of physical AND a spiritual experience, much like a pilgrimage in my opinion. The moment on stage is Mecca, and it is ‘sacred’, and the end of the journey. What “Michelle” feels when on stage is, sadly, missing from the account, but Dr. Bunsell tells us she looks confident, radiant and proud as she stands with the lights shining down on her and the audience clapping and cheering.

imagebam.com
imagebam.com

At this point, Dr. Bunsell claims, “Michelle” is storing memories that will serve to get her through the process of contest prep again. The journey has been both spiritual and physical, so they are memories of ‘sensations and emotions’ rather than events.

imagebam.com imagebam.com
imagebam.com imagebam.com

And it is these memories of her ‘sacred moment’ that will help enable “Michelle” to compete again and to once more achieve the objectively insane ambition of depleting her body of excess fat and ridding it of as much water as possible, until it is at its most unhealthy and weak. It is the memory of the ‘ecstasy’ that makes the ‘agony’ bearable. And the moment of ‘ecstasy’ is the ‘sacred’ moment when she is posing on stage.

imagebam.com

Congratulations to Lea, to “Michelle” (she won the contest in the book in case you were wondering), and to all competitive female bodybuilders, pro and amateur, whatever their division or federation. FMS wishes you all the ecstasy you can handle!

Strong and Hard Women – sadly no paperback edition as yet.

The Look of Love: Mirror Mirror

Yesterday’s musings about how it feels to be the hottest, most lusted after physique competitor in the world and then going up on stage and showing it all off while your fans are going wild… Well, it’s had me thinking all sorts of things about the FBB and their body image. Or to put it another way, I’ve been delving in the FMS archives for images of musclelicious self-admiration. FBBs looking at themselves, looking at their own beautiful muscles, with what can only be described as “The Look of Love”.

imagebam.com

It’s easy to imagine that Marja is thinking what a stone cold alpha muscle goddess she is. She’s saying to herself, It’s so sexy that my bicep is as big as my head. She’s perhaps wondering if she should maybe tone it down a shade or two on the tan next time, but that all in all, she’s feeling somewhat enamoured of her own amazing body.

imagebam.com

And it’s also easy to imagine Joanna getting all turned on by her own reflection. After all, it’s a very arousing reflection, so naturally I’d assume she’s arousing herself by looking at it. Joanna’s clearly taking her time drinking it all in. Each muscle flexed and appreciated in turn until she can’t bear it anymore and just rips off her top and starts to hit most muscular and abs and thigh poses till she collapses, panting for breath.

imagebam.com imagebam.com
imagebam.com imagebam.com

FBBs are always looking at themselves in the mirror. I reckon Denise Rodrigues likes what she sees when she looks in the mirror at the gym. Nathalie Foreau isn’t about to miss an opportunity to check out how cut and sexy she is when there’s a mirror in the lift. Denise has barely got in the door and she’s ripping off her clothes and flexing in front of one of her (many many) mirrors. And meanwhile back at the gym, they’ve switched off most of the lights and shut up the office, but none of the weary staff are about to ask Eva Lagerhorn Blum if she’d like to call it a night on the mirror posing.

imagebam.com

Obviously, my imaginings are my own fantasy of what a muscle woman sees and feels when she flexes for herself in the mirror. I was curious to see if there was anything out there written by the women themselves. In time-honoured research tradition here at FMS, I typed a few words into Google. And I found this on Tumblr

imagebam.com

I love my sport. But with it comes a negative side. Just like anything. The distortion you get of your own body is crazy. Please know that when I say I feel like a fat cow I’m serious. I mean it for myself and myself only. I have no expectations on anyone else and how they look. Being insanely lean and depleted of all water is very unhealthy and I realize that. However, the image that sticks in a competitors head is that day or two before the show. I realize that I’m not fat on anyone else’s terms. But for me and the way I see myself I feel like a size 16 when in reality I’m a 4.

Clearly my imaginings were not 100% on the nail. But, hey, it’s not ALL bad news. Granted, it is a bit of a shame that this particular NPC competitor can suffer from the kind of insecurities about body image that can afflict anyone, but on the other hand, she does imply that around contest time she is going to be lovin’ her muscular body in the mirror all over again. And thankfully, most of the mirror-posing photo shoots Swell found in the FMS archive just happened to have been taken with the women getting into, in, or post-contest shape, so we can all just go back to the fantasy.

With added definition!

imagebam.com

Figure turned pro physique competitor Cydney Gillon admires herself – her contest-ready self – backstage during her amateur days. Perhaps she is thinking what sensational genetics she has been blessed with, that she has the potential to be really big, big like Lenda. Or perhaps she is just thinking that with this much muscle already she had better start planning for a career in the physique division now. She might be wishing that the NPC would allow her to pose in a thong, that it’s a damn shame all that work she has put into getting her glutes so very tight isn’t going to be fully appreciated by the judges or the crowd. But I think she’s looking at her baseball biceps. I think she’s loving how they peak when she twists her wrists inwards. I think she’s been there twisting those wrists back and forth for a while, hypnotised by her own strong body, utterly lost in admiration of her own hard, pumped muscles…

Oooof! Got a bit lost myself there.

imagebam.com

And if I start imagining what a glistening, rippling, and self-admiring Nicole Ball (and when she was still a bodybuilder to boot!) is thinking about here, then I may get myself so lost I may never be able to find my way back to reality again. So you will have to imagine this one for yourselves. I’m sure, dear reader, you are more than capable.

Enjoy!

Dani Gets Chills in Orlando

Towards the end of March, FMS brought you news of Danielle Reardon‘s sensational showing at the St. Louis Pro (see WOW! Dani Reardon in St. Louis). Her package of stunning beauty and ripped, defined muscularity got the attention of the whole female muscle lovin’ world – by giving it a good hard slap in the mush and saying ‘look at me’.

Suddenly all those ‘physique is not for me’ purists were saying they had believed physique was a good idea all along, citing the delicious Dani as proof. FMS reported at the time that an ecstatic post-contest Lil Monstar had confessed I can’t wait to do it again on her Facebook page. Well, exactly 34 days after St. Louis, Danielle was doing it again in her home state of Florida at the Europa Show of Champions in Orlando.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

34 days. That’s a fair old time to maintain your body in peak condition. Surely she couldn’t bring the same razor-sharp conditioning to Orlando… But if anything, the Orlando package improved on the perfection of St. Louis, as Dani took to the stage so shredded that we had an even better view at all her juicy muscles this time.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

If it’d been a fan vote, Dani could have walked out in sack cloth and taken home the winner’s cheque, but, you know, it was an IFBB show, so there were judges and stuff. In a high quality field (more about them real soon) Dani was awarded 4th place.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

And the verdict is… 4th place!!!! posted a far from disappointed-sounding Dani on her Instagram. Finally a top five finish in my home town! And two more points towards the Olympia. I just want to let everyone know that I heard you all screaming for me! It not only gave me chills on stage, the fact that so many people were there to support me and cheer me on meant more to me than any placing…

imagebam.com imagebam.com

Well, here here! And she must know what a tither she’s getting us all into. Dani is a goddess, says one fan on the forum whose first rule is you do not talk about it. Yes. What a goddess!!!! another replies. She is perfectly built for physique, with perfectly developed legs and arms, reads another post. Yes, says I, and her back, her shoulders, her hard striated pecs and her insanely lickable abs aren’t too shabby either.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

And it’s not just us guys. On her Facebook page there is tribute after tribute from her girl fans. Your physique is amazing, I’m working on getting mine like yours, I love it! confesses one DaniGrl. I saw you compete at the Europa! writes another. Such a beautiful physique! I look up to you so much. I mean she MUST know.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

She did say I heard you all screaming for me, didn’t she? She KNOWS. She knows she is admired by women and lusted over by men (and probably most of the women who admire her too). She knows she is an object of female muscle desire. She knows and when she’s on that stage showing that most desirable body off, it gives her “chills”.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

Now I’m not the most up on American English these days, but all the references to “chills” in US popular culture that I know are definitely not about feeling cold. It’s an onerous task, but take a good look at these images of Dani in Orlando at her best, at her most goddess yet. See if you can spot when exactly she is feeling those “chills”. I’m not saying I know the answer, but I am saying it is a fun game to play.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

Or better yet, watch her whole routine. I reckon she gets that feeling at about 1.04ish, just after the back flip, when her posing definitely gets a bit, well, frenetic.

Enjoy!

Favourites Fortnight

Ever FBB

Choosing your favourite ever FBB is, as I’m sure many of you know, a bit of a hiding to nothing, but I have been asked this question a handful of times since I started the blog, so at least I do have an answer I made earlier on this one. So here goes…

I’ve been a female muscle head for over 25 years now. At first, this meant I bought mainstream muscle magazines to satisfy my cravings. I have my favourites from these years: Anja Langer, Michelle Andrea, Diana Dennis, Denise Rutkowski and even a young (ie. pre-surgery) Melissa Coates among them. But if I had to choose one woman from this period, it’d be Dorothy Herndon.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

I can still recall the purchase of that issue of Muscle Training Illustrated which introduced Dorothy to me. The sight of her on the cover and suddenly I was dry-mouthed, trembling with excitement, frantically turning pages to see more of this vision of heart-stopping muscular beauty. Once bought, this magazine remained at or near the top of the pile for many many years after, treasured not least because there was very little of Dorothy that appeared anywhere else.

imagebam.com

Little more has come to light since the advent of the internet, but thanks to those heroic scanners of muscle magazines, you can see pretty much all of Dorothy there ever was all at once. But better still, Dorothy’s video work with WPW can now be enjoyed by all, as well as this guest posing clip from 1988. And I found that she moved like I always imagined she would – with the graceful power of a lioness.

Dorothy isn’t my favourite ever, but she was pretty much my favourite of that era of female muscle lovin’. When mainstream muscle magazines gave way to Women’s Physique World, there were suddenly so many more women in many different outfits (albeit only every few months – remember the torture of that wait?!), and among them were women who belong on the same level of my female muscle pantheon as Dorothy.

imagebam.com imagebam.com
imagebam.com imagebam.com

And then came the internet. All of those past favourites to be seen anew, and on top of that there was a whole new generation of female muscle talent available for our collective and individual viewing pleasure. More images than ever before, more videos than ever before, and it was all easier to access than ever before.

imagebam.com imagebam.com
imagebam.com imagebam.com

Yet more women for the pantheon.

And in that era, more or less, I first met my two all-time favourites.

GINA DAVIS

imagebam.com imagebam.com

It’s been a while, but FMS did pay tribute to Gina back in February 2012 (Treasures from the Archive: Gina Davis), pointing out, among other things, how much fun it is to say that your dream woman is Gina Davis and have everyone around you (secret female muscle heads excepted) assume you are talking about Geena Davis.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

We also noted that Gina’s relatively short competitive career left me (and many others) wanting more, and wondered if perhaps this was the secret of her enduring appeal.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

And around that time, news that Gina was posting pictures of herself on social media led me to fall in love with her all over again. No longer was she the huge, ripped bodybuilder Gina, but she still has that brilliant smile, and all those years of pumping serious iron have left her with mouth-watering muscular curves.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

DENISE HOSHOR

imagebam.com

Her WPW and Ray Martin videos are still the all-time best sellers, so I doubt that I’m alone in my adoration of this Californian female muscle legend. I reckon I first saw Denise Hoshor in the WPW pic above, just one of the many unforgettable images of her of course, but especially cherished because it was the first.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

As far as I’m concerned, everything she did as a bodybuilder was magic, but two stand out. First, Denise in Hawaii, posing in a purple bikini and white heels in public. She is in incredible shape. Huge and defined from head to toe, but unmistakably feminine. As the crowd (of men) watching her grows, the more provocative and sexier her posing gets. Second, in a tiny segment of a GMV video (can’t remember which, I bought it and threw it out so long ago now, and have never found the exact clip). She’s at an Expo, strutting through the crowd in a tight black dress. The GMV camera person asks her to flex, and when she does – biceps, shoulders, pecs, biceps again – camera person is rendered speechless. She flexes one magnificent bicep again and looks beyond the camera. Good? she asks. There’s no reply. She smiles, and struts away.

imagebam.com imagebam.com

For me, Denise is all about arrogance. There’s the way she looks at herself in the mirror as she flexes in the pump room. And then the measured posing you can see in her routines – slow, showing every muscle in glorious detail, looking like she’s loving every single second she’s on that stage displaying her beautiful strong body. And then there’s her knowing smile… You know I could go on and on and on…

imagebam.com

So there you are. Gina and Denise. Denise and Gina.

Not the most original of choices, but to me that just shows I’m not alone in ranking (I said ‘ranking’!) these two ultimate goddesses highly. They appear at or near the top of most all-time lists I’ve seen. There must be something about them…

But wait! I hear you cry. What about Alina? Shannon? Oana? Aleesha?

Well, call me old-fashioned, but I feel that if you are talking ever, all-time favourites, then you should apply a little caution when it comes to active female bodybuilders. Case in point: if you’d asked me for a top 30 all-time a couple of years ago, Fabiola Boulanger would definitely have featured. And looked what happened next.

I don’t think Alina, Oana or Aleesha are about to downsize – Shannon I’m not convinced about, though it doesn’t seem she’ll be giving up ‘bodybuilding’ imminently either – but I’d rather let their careers come to their conclusions before finding them their place in the pantheon if it’s all the same to you.

Final faves of the fortnight tomorrow…

Favourites Fortnight

Posts

For a change, we thought today we could focus on your favourites rather than mine as we bring you today the TOP TEN MOST POPULAR FMS POSTS EVER (by page views).

[This list is not the same as the ‘Popular Posts’ (see right), which are ranked according to page views this month rather than for all time, though a few feature on both.]

10 – Hot and Hard: Cindy Landolt

imagebam.com

There is so much more to this woman than just stunning looks and a perfect body…

9 – Further Adventures in Celebrity Muscle

imagebam.com imagebam.com

Her Madgesty, Serena Williams, Jessica Biel, Jamie Pressly, Lena Olin and many more leave FMS wondering whether the time of the buff female celebrity is nigh… This post owes its popularity to a reader who posted a link to it on a Turkish community forum. Almost all of its 3,908 page views came in the week after the link appeared there.

8 – Muscle Girls Next Door

imagebam.com

These days we prefer to call them FMGs (Future Muscle Godesses) but back in June 2011, we were still calling them Girls Next Door. This was a picture post that had been inspired by a real life female muscle sighting in Greenwich the day before.

7 – FBBUK: The Transformation of Linda Gartside

imagebam.com imagebam.com

One of my personal favourites. The amazing story of Linda Gartside‘s journey from binge-eater to NABBA Universe champ told as a Rocky-style Hollywood blockbuster and endorsed by Rochdale’s sexiest driving instructor herself. FMS Gold!

6 – Images of 2011

imagebam.com

A nod from the mighty Area Orion and BOOM! thousands of new readers arrive at FMS for the first time and take a gander at what and who had been getting me all pumped up in 2011. Femme Fatale, Annie Sakamoto, Silvia Sarti and Mara Dalila (above, winning Leg Shot of the Year) are just some of the mouth-watering treats on offer.

5 – Andrea Rosu

imagebam.com imagebam.com

A thing for muscular legs on non-muscular women developed through trips to Soho sex shops as a teenager and a tip-off from PumpItUp himself combine to create a tribute to Andrea Rosu, fetish model. I was so sure that this post wouldn’t be popular that I felt the need to apologise for featuring a woman who was not a bodybuilder as an introduction, which just goes to show how well I know my readers!

4 – Size Matters: A Fantasy Contest

imagebam.com

Imagine you could have a female bodybuilding contest where all the competitors were at their absolute peak irrespective of the era they actually competed in. Kind of like Bill and Ted, you have a time machine and you can travel back and forth in time collecting your favourite FBBs for your dream show…

imagebam.com

This post marked the start of a number of virtual friendships with female muscle heads from all over the world as readers voted for their ultimate FBB contest line-up. Add to that the pleasure had in choosing the women and the format for “The Number One Orgasmic Meat Exhibition” and you get another of my personal favourites.

3 – Glamazons

imagebam.com imagebam.com

Swell reveals that as far as he’s concerned, a muscle woman in a sexy dress is heaven on Earth, and goes on to describe – with a little help from Minna Pajulahti (above left), Andrea Giacomi (above right), and a host of other beautiful muscle women looking glamorous – exactly what it is that makes them such heavenly sights.

2 – Big Girls

What it says on the tin plus real quotes from female bodybuilders.

1 – Size Matters: Super Freaks

imagebam.com

I’m proud of this one. A combination of Collette Guimond, Rene Toney and Christine Envall plus Tigersan and Richard Dawkins. A celebration of the women who say I’m going to be the most muscular woman on that stage, perhaps the most muscular woman in the world, and to hell with you if you don’t like it!

imagebam.com

And a conclusion that if it is true that there is no limit in theory to the muscular development a woman can have, we can only conclude that in the future the muscles of today’s super-freaks like Christine, Colette and Rene might seem quite tame!

Enjoy!

It’ll be back to my favourites tomorrow…

To be honest, I’m not sure what exactly I mean by ‘Gulty Pleasure’ or why I should consider Brooke Black (probably not her real name, see below) to be one. When I was making a list of possible posts for this Favourites Fortnight, ‘Guilty Pleasure’ is one of the ideas I came up with, and immediately I thought ‘Brooke Black’, as if I had been playing some kind of Freudian word association game or something.

Well, I’m not one to delve unnecessarily into my own subconscious, but it may have something to do with all those nasty rumours about her on the internet. For example, according to The Dirty in July 2013, Brooke will do all sorts of things for money online, including lesbian porn, so she can buy more steroids in her attempt to become a fitness competitor. She has tried to rip off her social media followers in the past two months by offering to do ‘custom vids’ for hundreds of dollars, but then never follows through and only makes excuses and tells lies to avoid being exposed. Don’t be deceived, despite the cheery, positive vibes she sends out online, this girl is very devious and manipulative behind the scenes. Ah, so that would explain all those aliases. Brooke Black was formerly Crimson Rosee, who used to go by the name of Miss DaisyXX, who was once also known as Azaria Black.

But she’s hardly the first woman to fund her bodybuilding through online activities, and if the end result is that Brooke competes, then personally I cannot wait for her to rip off a few more numpties and speed up the process. Let’s face it, if you are ordering custom vids from women like Brooke, then you can probably afford to take the two or three hundred dollar hit (and if you can’t, then you shouldn’t be ordering custom vids from women like Brooke, should you?). Whether she takes steroids or not, she knows where the weight room is, and whatever she’s doing there, it’s certainly working because Brooke is getting hotter and harder by the day.

So I guess she’s not a ‘guilty pleasure’ because of all the rumours. Perhaps it’s the implants? Occasionally I do come over all ‘muscle purist’ and tell myself the pure pec way is the only way. But that never lasts long (about as long as it takes until I look at a new picture of Brooke in fact) and when ‘the work’ has been done as well as Brooke’s has, I do find it impossible to be at all dogmatic about the issue.

Not the implants, then. Leaving only one last thing to feel guilty about – her age. At 20 she is certainly something to feel guilty about in a number of US states, but I’m in Europe and she’s in Canada, so there’s no legal reason why I should feel guilty about perving over her hot and hard body. And if I were to feel guilty about all muscular women who are inappropriately young for a man who’s just turned 40 to enjoy, then there wouldn’t have been any Shannon Courtney, any Dani Reardon, in fact any of a lot of the women we’ve enjoyed here at FMS in the past.

So no, I don’t feel guilty about Brooke being 20, either. Perhaps I think I should just delete the word ‘Guilty’ from the top of the post and just make it ‘Favourite Pleasure’. I think that would be a far better description of what Brooke means to me right now because I have been getting a whole lot of ‘pleasure’ from her recently! Pleasure from the daydreams I’ve been having since I realised that my wife (who recently decided to start weight training, see My Wife the FMG?!) is exactly the same height as Brooke (5’3″/1.60m). Pleasure from those big blue eyes and those full and juicy lips. Pleasure from that sensational body, a body that is more and more muscular, more and more defined, sexier and sexier with each new selfie. But most of all, I get so much pleasure from her obvious pleasure in muscle. Make no mistake, whatever trail of suckers/victims she is leaving in her virtual wake, Brooke Black is very much into being muscular and takes a lot of pleasure in being adored for her muscularity.

Tazzie Colomb Clip

It’s hot down there in the shemuscle gym. Hot and sweaty. Damn it’s hot in here, says Tazzie, already pumped, vascular and drenched in sweat when the clip begins. With much grunting, groaning and heavy breathing she performs a set of dumbbell presses, her chest and arms getting bigger and more vascular with every rep. The set over, she flexes for the camera, she flexes in the mirror. Oh man, my shoulders are pumped up! See the veins in them? she asks us. And then the top comes off…

I must have watched this clip twenty, thirty, even forty times perhaps, and each time I am absolutely hypnotised. This is female muscle at its most powerful, bestial even, but also at its most arrogant. Tazzie owns the space, in full muscle goddess strut as she piles extra weight onto the barbell for her second set of topless barbell presses.

Boy, I like being strong, she says, her voice deep and sexy. Being strong is a whole lot better than posing on stage and getting judged. Nobody can take it from me. It’s so good being strong, it feels so good. She roars through a second topless set, a set which I have hardly ever watched in totality before roaring myself, if you know what I mean.

That SheMuscle.com gym dungeon has been the setting for a number of memorable female muscle moments, but for my money, Tazzie’s pumped up muscle sweatfest is my pick of the bunch. And if this post is beginning to sound like an advertisement for SheMuscle.com, that isn’t my intention at all – though if any SheMuscle.com bods want to take it as such and feel they should reward me in some way (lifetime free membership, for example), well that would be absolutely fine too!

Enjoy!
